The first time I saw Mos Def / Yassin Bey was when he performed live with Gorrilaz at the RoundHouse in London in 2010.
Yesterday at the Concorde 2 in Brighton was the first time I seen him solo.
I arrived early and after some time managed to get back stage courtesy of promoter Ish and the rest of Concorde Staff – Big up Tom!
Yassin arrived and we managed to bump fists and get my hiphop stamps print signed before the show. I can’t tell you what a relief this is to get the print signed before the show, as It means I can avoid the anxiety of missing out on such an opportunity.
After keeping a highly anticipated crowd waiting he then stepped to the stage and blessed the crowd with tracks old and new. There was no doubt he was enjoying the feedback from the crowd. Highlight for me was when he dropped Auditorium off the Ecstatic album – No Slick Rick but he smashed it . To my surprise the whole crowd knew this track – and there was me thinking it was only my personal favourite.
‘Ecstatic’ performance… I now wanna go to the London show Saturday!
